TUMBLE INTO

Easter at Bettys

With brightness in the air and new life all around, we’ve taken inspiration from the Yorkshire springtime this Easter. Our chocolatiers’ beautiful new creations include the adorable Jenny the Sheep, our Spring Bunny Milk Chocolate Egg and a fresh look for our Spring Flowers egg – each crafted from our luxurious Swiss Grand Cru.

Of course, we’re also busy at our Craft Bakery making your traditional favourites: fruity Simnel cakes and tempting hot cross buns, delicately hand-iced cakes and delicious Mother’s Day gifts, all ready to deliver to you and your loved ones.

AN INTERVIEW WITH OUR CHOCOLATIER

Standing out from the herd

Bringing together our finest chocolate and the creative craft of our chocolatiers, our new Jenny the Sheep egg is this Easter’s most enchanting new arrival.

The star of our Craft Bakery this Easter is Jenny the Sheep – an egg like you’ve never seen before. Made from a thick shell of gorgeously creamy white chocolate, Jenny is hand-decorated with a white chocolate swirly fleece and an adorable dark chocolate face, complete with sugar daisy.

Although we’d be happy for the entire flock of Jennies to stay living here with us at the bakery, we also know that she’s a gift to be loved by both the young and the young at heart. So before we let Jenny loose, we had a chat with her creator – and namesake – Bettys chocolatier Jenny Mills.

How did you come up with the idea for Jenny the Sheep?

The Yorkshire Dales in springtime inspired me to create Jenny. Sheep are at the heart of our landscape. I love them and have always wanted to make a chocolate sheep.

How do you depict her woolly coat in chocolate?

To create the woolly coat we pipe white chocolate in overlapping circles, gradually covering the surface of the egg, just leaving enough room to pipe the face.

Which part of making Jenny do you enjoy the most?

For me, the wool coat is the best part, but it’s also fun when we pipe her face as a personality develops and makes me smile. Each one is different and I always have a favourite in each batch. I have worked for Bettys in chocolate for 21 years and still love it.

Make Easter Extra Special

Our Craft Bakery is the home of patience, skill and attention to detail – the values of our chocolatier founder, Frederick, which live on more than a century later.

Creating our Easter eggs begins with tempering, ensuring our luxurious Swiss chocolate—made from rare Criollo cocoa beans—achieves a perfect shine and satisfying ‘snap’. This year, our Chocolatiers are introducing the Golden Blonde Chocolate Easter Egg, whose caramel-scented chocolate is lightly caramelised to offer dreamy toffee notes. You’ll also find heavenly combinations of flavour and texture in our Orange Crisp Milk Chocolate Easter Egg, and our Honey & Walnut Milk Chocolate Flat Easter Egg.

Once the chocolate sets, our chocolatiers and cake decorators call upon their artistic skills. It takes the steadiest of hands to depict the riot of crocuses, pansies and other joyous blooms on our Spring Flowers Milk Chocolate Easter Egg, all hand-crafted from sugar or piped in royal icing.

As you unwrap your Bettys treats this Easter, take a moment to appreciate each delicate flower, icing flourish or piece of glossy chocolate perfected by our Craft Bakery team. Then go ahead and enjoy every bite.
